I have the Christian radio station on a lot, but there are other times when I have it off, and I will explain a bit more about that in a future post. But at these quieter times, I often just sit in the quiet and reflect on many things. I try and listen to what God’s Holy Spirit is inspiring me about. No guarantee that my thoughts always reflect what I am being taught or encouraged about! Certainly one of those things especially at this time of year relate to the birth of Jesus, and to some extent what Mary and Joseph might have been thinking or going through at various stages of their lives.
-all other babies are formed as a result of the genetics of two biological parents, sharing their DNA and creating a unique person; Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and as God the Son, wouldn’t have shared any of Mary or Joseph's genetics. In a very basic sense, I can see how they might have viewed their son, as both of our kids were adopted and had nothing of our DNA in their make-up, but of course were created via the DNA of two other human beings. We periodically wondered how their genetics would come into play as they grew up in our home.
-as the baby Jesus was born, looking at him as a tiny infant, how awesome were those tiny hands, that created the world; those eyes which saw the fullness of creation; what was going on in His thoughts, about why He was here, etc.? He was always in communion with God the Father, perhaps even right from the time He was born. Presumably He knew of His purpose, maybe right from the beginning, but how as a ‘human’ does He relate to family, friends, etc.?
-how does one ‘raise’ the Son of God?
-as Jesus grew, did He need to be disciplined? Not likely, as He was without sin.
-did He need teaching about carpentry in Joseph’s carpenter shop? Not likely as He, along with God the Father was the ultimate creator and designer of all things!
-He amazed the church leaders with His knowledge when Mary, Joseph, Jesus and others went to Jerusalem. When He did not return with them a day later, Mary and Joseph went back to Jerusalem and found Him in the temple asking questions and amazing the leaders with his knowledge at age 12!
-how did Jesus interact with his siblings, or others in the community of his age? He didn’t establish His recorded ministry until about 30 years of age. What was life for Him, and the others in his family like for those first 30 years, until that time when He called the disciples and started His recorded ministry?
-did He need to be taught by His earthly parents about life/living? Not likely, and it is quite possible that Mary and Joseph may have asked many things of him, since He was the co-creator with His father and knew all things. Just like at the wedding feast when He performed the first recorded miracle of turning water into wine Mary, without knowing what Jesus would do, instructed the hosts just to do what Jesus said.
-certainly reflecting on these and so many other such things, it is overwhelming to know of God’s love for each of us, and what He has done to draw us to Him. Lots of emotion and joy associated with such thoughts while sitting in the peace and quiet, which may be hard to do in such a busy season! But the more one takes time to think about them, the more thoughts come to mind? Try it!!
And enjoy the quiet in spite of the busyness.
In conclusion, I have chosen the following songs to share with you, that you may or may not have heard before.
The first one is: Here With Us, by Joy Williams. It has been out for a few years, but the words combined with the video are soul-stirring, especially including the latter part of the video. If they don’t trigger some emotion, perhaps you should check with a mortician :-)??? Here is the link.
Another one is: Come Adore Him, by Riley Clemmons. Here is the link.
A third one is: How Good It Is, by Chris Tomlin. Here is the link.
Blessings to all of you this Christmas season!
